Best of 10 Years – London, I still can’t believe it
-
January 2025 – a date I will probably never forget. Having arrived directly from Vienna days before, there I was in London, amidst the hustle and bustle of an awards event that has been considered
the international hotspot for event photography in the industry for years. And then suddenly my name is called. Best of 10 Years. Best wedding photo in a decade of award history. I briefly wondered if I was dreaming or if someone else in the room had the same name as me. Apparently, no one did.
The Event Photography Awards London
– An international focal point in event photography
My photo, with which I had already won the Weddings category and the Austrian Wedding Award at the Event Photography Awards London 2024, has thus prevailed against winning photos from the last ten years. Ten. Years. I didn’t really grasp it myself at the beginning – you take a photo, you feel this moment, press the shutter, and months later you’re standing on a stage in London, among international giants of photography, holding an award in your hand that feels heavier than any camera I’ve ever carried.
And yes – that moment was incredible. Not a pathetic ‘indescribable,’ but rather that completely overwhelmed, euphoric grin that you can’t wipe off your face. A mix of pride, goosebumps, a racing heart, and that voice in my head whispering: “You really did it.”
Wedding photography – I get to live this dream!
That evening, I didn’t just take an award home – I took confirmation. That genuine emotions, real moments, and unposed truth touch people. For me, this picture is more than a winning photo. It is a memory. Quiet and loud at the same time. And that exactly this is recognized – not just once, but over the years – that is pure gold.
London, you were insanely beautiful.
Event Photography Awards London – thank you for this madness.
And to the couple immortalized in this photo:
Thank you for this moment. Without you, it would never have gone around the world.
